Start from the workload, not the plan list
Write down what will run on the server: a WordPress site, a game server, MT4/MT5 terminals, a database, a bot, a staging environment. The workload decides how many vCPUs and how much RAM you need, and whether you need Linux or Windows.
If you are unsure, start small on hourly billing. A KVM VPS can be resized in place later, so an undersized first choice costs you a reboot, not a migration. The sizing guide on the VPS page maps common workloads to plan sizes.
What to compare between VPS providers
Headline prices hide most of the differences. Put these side by side before you buy:
- Reserved or oversold RAM: reserved RAM means the memory in the plan is there when your application needs it.
- Disk type: NVMe storage is much quicker than SATA SSD for databases and busy sites.
- What the price includes: a public IPv4 address, the port speed (1 Gbps here), snapshots and DDoS protection are often extras elsewhere.
- Bandwidth rules: metered outbound traffic can cost more than the server. Here inbound is free and outbound is fair-use, not metered.
- DDoS protection: whether attacks are scrubbed or the IP is null-routed (taken offline) until the attack stops.
- Billing flexibility: hourly, monthly and multi-year terms on the same VM, so you can start small and commit later.
- Invoices: a GST tax invoice with your GSTIN lets a registered business claim input tax credit.
- Location and latency: an Indian datacentre keeps round trips short for Indian users and data inside Indian jurisdiction.
Choose the operating system
Linux images (Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky and others) suit web servers, Docker, databases and most developer workloads. Windows Server suits RDP desktops, MT4/MT5 and Windows-only software; on general plans the Windows licence is billed by the hour, while Forex VPS and gaming plans include it.
Stack images for WordPress, LAMP/LEMP, Docker, cPanel/WHM and Plesk save the first hour of setup.
Pick a billing term
Hourly billing is pay-as-you-go with a 48 hours minimum per server: right for trials, events and short projects. A monthly plan costs 30% less than the hourly list, and a 12-month term 44% less. The hourly vs monthly guide shows where the break-even point is.
Today the smallest general VPS starts at ₹336 a month or ₹0.66 an hour, before GST. Full prices for every size and term are on the pricing page.
Ordering a VPS on BookMyHost
- Create an account
Sign up with your email address. New accounts get a welcome credit in the wallet to try a small server on hourly billing.
- Complete eKYC once
Indian rules (CERT-In) require hosting providers to verify customers. It is done once per account, with Aadhaar/DigiLocker or an ID document.
- Choose size, OS and term
Pick a plan or build a custom size, choose the image and decide between hourly and a monthly to 36-month term.
- Pay and deploy
Pay by UPI, card, net-banking or wallet. The server is usually live under a minute later, with its IP and login shown in the panel.
After the server is live
Take the free snapshot before you change anything important, update the operating system, and close the ports you do not use. If the workload grows, resize the VM or move it to a longer term from the panel without rebuilding it.
