What you rent when you rent a VPS
A VPS (virtual private server) is a virtual machine on a physical server in a datacentre. When you rent one you get a fixed share of that server: virtual CPUs, memory, an NVMe disk and a public IPv4 address, with root access on Linux or administrator access on Windows. The provider owns and runs the hardware, power, cooling and network; you pay rent for the time the server exists.
On BookMyHost every rented VPS runs on KVM in our Noida datacentre (Delhi NCR), behind Cloudflare Magic Transit DDoS protection, with a 1 Gbps port and a GST invoice for every payment.
- Compute: vCPU, RAM and NVMe disk in the size you pick, or any size from the server builder.
- Network: a public IPv4 address, a 1 Gbps port and DDoS scrubbing in front of the whole network.
- Control: a panel and an API to start, stop, resize, reinstall and snapshot the server, plus a browser console.
- Paperwork: a GST tax invoice in India, or a USD invoice with no GST for customers outside India.
Rental periods: hourly, monthly or up to three years
Rent by the hour while you test or for short jobs. The smallest server costs ₹0.66 an hour, billed per started hour with a 1 hour minimum, and you can delete it at any time. Delete the server and the rent stops.
Rent by the month once a server is staying. A monthly plan costs 30% less than a full month of hourly billing, so monthly is cheaper once the server runs for about 511 hours (roughly 21 days) in the month. The smallest monthly plan is ₹336.
Rent for longer to lower the price further: a yearly term is 44% below the hourly list and a three-year term 65% below it. You can move the same server from hourly to a term later without rebuilding it. The hourly vs monthly guide works through the numbers.
Managed or unmanaged rental
VPS rental is usually unmanaged: the provider runs the platform and you run what is inside the server. A managed rental adds someone who looks after the operating system and software, usually for a higher monthly rent.
A rented VPS here is self-managed, with help on hand: human support for the platform, network and billing is included, and CloudAIBot installs and configures common stacks such as LAMP, WordPress, Docker, IIS or MT4/MT5 at no extra charge. The managed vs unmanaged guide explains where the line sits.
Renting a Windows VPS
A Windows VPS rents the same way as Linux, on the same rate card. The Windows Server licence is included (₹0 per core today), billed per vCPU core, and is never charged while the server is powered off. Windows images run on servers from 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM, so a Windows rental never ships too small to use. See Windows VPS plans and the Windows VPS guide.
How to rent a VPS here
- Create an account
Sign up with email or Google. Indian customers verify with DigiLocker or Aadhaar eKYC; customers abroad verify with a passport.
- Add funds
Top up the wallet by UPI, card or net banking, or by PayPal or card in US dollars from abroad. Your first recharge is doubled as bonus credit.
- Pick the size and term
Choose a plan on the VPS page or set exact vCPU, RAM and disk in the server builder, then choose hourly or a term.
- Deploy
Pick Linux or Windows and deploy. The server is live in under a minute with its IP address and login shown in the panel.
- Run and resize
Resize vCPU, RAM or disk from the panel when the workload changes, and take a snapshot before upgrades.
Ending a rental
An hourly server stops costing money when you delete it. Cancel a monthly or longer term before it ends and the unused part goes back to your wallet, prorated, with a GST credit note.
Your first order of a VPS, cloud server or managed Kubernetes plan is also covered by the 7-day money-back guarantee: ask within 7 days of the first payment and the full amount goes back to the payment method you used.
