What a Windows VPS is
A Windows VPS is a KVM virtual machine with Windows Server installed. You log in as Administrator over Remote Desktop (RDP) and use it like a Windows computer that is always on, with a public IP address and a datacentre network. Here it runs in our Noida datacentre with NVMe storage and Cloudflare Magic Transit DDoS protection.
Which Windows Server versions you get
You can pick Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025 when you order. Remote Desktop is ready at first boot. If you change your mind, reinstall the other version from the panel later.
How the Windows licence is billed
The Windows Server licence is included (₹0 per core today), billed per vCPU core. The plan prices on the Windows VPS page already include it, and it is never charged while the server is powered off. The licence is supplied by us under Microsoft's service provider licensing, so you do not buy or activate a separate key.
Remote Desktop for one or two administrators is part of Windows Server. If several people will work on the server at the same time as ordinary users, they need Remote Desktop Services client licences; ask support before you plan a multi-user desktop.
What size a Windows VPS needs
Windows Server needs more memory than a Linux server doing the same job, and updates need disk space. Windows images are therefore sold on servers from 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM, so a Windows VPS never ships too small to use. Any larger size from the server builder runs Windows too.
- One Remote Desktop user, MT4/MT5 terminals or a small IIS or .NET site: the entry Windows plan.
- A few Remote Desktop users, desktop business software, or IIS with a database: the next sizes up.
- Heavier .NET applications, SQL Server or more users: a larger build, resized in place when you need it.
Connect over Remote Desktop
- Copy the login
Open the server in the panel and copy its IP address and Administrator password. You can reset the password there.
- Open an RDP client
On Windows use Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc); on a Mac, iPhone or Android use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app; on Linux use Remmina or any RDP client.
Enter the IP address, then Administrator and the password. Accept the certificate prompt on the first connection.
- Update first
Run Windows Update before installing anything else, then take a snapshot from the panel so you have a clean point to roll back to.
Keep RDP secure
An RDP port on the internet is scanned constantly. RDPGuard on the image blocks an address that keeps failing to log in, and a successful login clears your own address. Add the rest yourself:
- Use a long, unique Administrator password, and create a separate user for each person.
- In Windows Firewall, allow RDP only from your office or home IP addresses if they are fixed.
- Keep Windows Update on, and take a snapshot before large updates.
- Copy important data off the server on a schedule, for example to S3 object storage; a snapshot is not a backup.
- If you lock yourself out, use the browser console in the panel, which works without RDP.
What a Windows VPS is used for
- Forex and algo trading terminals such as MT4 and MT5, running all day close to Indian brokers. See Forex VPS plans.
- Desktop business and accounting software your team opens over Remote Desktop.
- ASP.NET and IIS websites, with SQL Server Express or a separate database.
- Windows-only tools, build agents and test machines that need a public IP address.
Billing and getting started
A Windows VPS is billed hourly while you test, per started hour with a 1 hour minimum, or on a monthly to three-year term once it is staying: monthly is 30% below the hourly list and a three-year term 65% below it. Indian customers get a GST invoice; customers outside India pay in US dollars with no GST.
Your first Windows VPS order is covered by the 7-day money-back guarantee. If you would rather not set it up yourself, CloudAIBot configures Windows Server with IIS and RDP at no extra charge.
