BGP sessions and IP subnet hosting

Some workloads need more than one address per server: your own IP space, your own ASN, or a block of addresses for a service. For servers hosted with us we run BGP sessions, announce customer prefixes and provide IP subnets, priced on quotation.

Updated · Prices read live from the BookMyHost Cloud rate card, in INR, excluding GST.

What we offer

These services are for customers whose servers run in our Noida datacentre. They are set up per customer, so they are priced on quotation rather than listed on the pricing page.

  • BGP sessions: your server or router peers with our network and announces your prefixes, with your own ASN or a private one.
  • Customer IP subnet hosting (bring your own IP): we announce IP space you hold, so your addresses keep working when your servers move here.
  • IP subnets with your servers: a block of our addresses routed to your servers, for services that need more than one IP each.

The network your prefix rides on

We run our own autonomous system, AS152523, peer at Extreme IX and carry transit from Airtel and NTT, with a BGP policy that prefers the shortest domestic route. Read more on the technology page.

Our own prefixes are announced through Cloudflare Magic Transit for DDoS protection. Whether a customer prefix is announced the same way is part of the quotation; see DDoS protection for how scrubbing works.

Bringing your own IP space

To announce a prefix that is registered to you, the paperwork has to show that we are allowed to originate it. Have these ready:

  • The prefix and its registry record (APNIC or another regional internet registry), in your organisation's name.
  • An RPKI ROA that authorises our ASN (or yours, if you peer with us under your own ASN) to originate the prefix. Without it, many networks drop the route as RPKI-invalid.
  • A route object in an IRR database, so upstream filters accept the announcement.
  • A letter of authorisation (LOA) on your letterhead, if your registry or our upstreams ask for one.

Running a BGP session from your server

With your own ASN you can run BIRD, FRRouting or a virtual router on a server hosted here and peer with our edge. You control which of your prefixes are announced and when, which suits anycast services, failover between sites and networks moving into India.

Tell us whether you want only a default route from us or a full table, and which communities you need.

How to ask for a quotation

  1. Describe the setup

Your ASN (if you have one), the prefixes or how many addresses you need, and how many servers they will be routed to.

  2. Send it to us

Use the contact page or WhatsApp, and mention BGP or IP subnets in the message.

  3. Get a quotation

We check the registry and RPKI records and reply with the price and what is still needed before the session goes live.

  4. Go live

Once the servers are running here and the records are in place, we bring up the session or route the subnet to your servers.

FAQ

Questions on this guide

Can I announce my own IP prefix from your datacentre?

Yes, for servers hosted with us. Send your prefix and ASN for a quotation; the prefix needs a registry record in your name and an RPKI ROA for the originating ASN.

Do you sell IP subnets?

Yes, to customers whose servers are hosted here. The subnet is routed to your servers and priced on quotation.

Do I need my own ASN to get a BGP session?

Not always. With your own ASN you peer with us directly; without one, we can announce your prefix from our ASN. Tell us which fits when you ask for a quote.

Why is BGP and IP subnet hosting priced on quotation?

Each setup depends on the prefix, the routing you need and the number of servers, so we price it per customer instead of on the public rate card.

Which network will announce my prefix?

Our own network, AS152523, which peers at Extreme IX and carries Airtel and NTT transit.
