Can I connect from my laptop?
Not directly: the database only listens on your app server's private network, which keeps it away from scanners. Connect from an app on the same server, or use pgAdmin from the App Store.
Is it backed up?
Your app server is a private VM; take regular dumps from an app or a scheduled job, and keep a copy in BookMyHost S3.
