Silver vs Gold on a cloud server
Silver is single-user: one person works in the company at a time, so it fits one seat. Gold is multi-user: any number of people open the same company at the same time, with Tally handling record locking. On Tally on Cloud seat one activates the Gold serial and the other seats use that licence over the private network, so every seat sees the same licensed company.
You cannot share a Silver serial between two seats. If two people need to work at once, upgrade to Gold through Tally Solutions or your Tally partner; the upgrade is a serial change, not a reinstall.
How users connect
- Browser: each user signs in at their own address with a personal username, password and optional authenticator code, and TallyPrime appears in the tab. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPad and Android.
- Remote Desktop: on the Windows RDP plan each user connects with mstsc or the Microsoft Remote Desktop app to a dedicated Windows Server, with printer and drive redirection.
- Either way all users work on the same data folder on the server, so there is no synchronisation step and no copy on anyone's laptop.
Keeping the data safe with many users
Give every person their own login instead of sharing one; it is included in the price and makes it possible to remove one user without changing a password for everyone. Turn on two-factor authentication for owners and the CA. Inside TallyPrime, use its own user and security control so a data entry operator cannot alter audited vouchers.
Nightly backups keep 7 days of history and any night can be restored from the Data panel. Before a big import or a year-end close, take a manual backup from inside TallyPrime as well.
Setting it up
